GENI BARRY QUARTET: “FROM JOBIM TO MANCINI”
Thursday, Dec’16th, 2021
ICCIC Auditorium, 7:30 PM
Geni Barry is one of the Catalan vibraphone performers with the widest recognition, even internationally. He has collaborated with Tete Montoliu and the famous American vibraphone player Bobby Hutcherson. His recent CD Looking Back! (Edited by Fresh Sound) has received excellent reviews in Jazz Journal and Doctor Jazz Magazine. He is a professor at the Jam Session School of Music.
His proposal now, as the head of his quartet, is to interpret in the language of jazz a series of themes that, in principle, were not intended to be performed in this musical genre. But, as great jazzmen have historically done, Geni Barry gives them a certain rhythmic and expressive treatment, treats them with arrangements and recreates them with improvisations, which transform these themes from the field of the bossa nova or the soundtracks of famous movies, in jazz music.
GENI BARRY, vibraphone
