Place: CENTRE MORAL DE GRÀCIA (Ros de Olano, 9 – Barcelona)
Barcelona Springtime Swing ’22 is the second edition of an initiative that was presented for the first time in 2019 and has been halted for two years due to the pandemic. The objective set by the entities that support this project is to give our audience the opportunity to know and enjoy the music of international figures of the current jazz scene – within the wide range of what is understood as classical jazz – who do not normally visit our stages.
We believe that long-time jazz fans and those who feel an incipient curiosity about this genre, will appreciate this initiative that will put them in contact with high class performers, whose music, without lowering their level of demand, is within the reach of all audiences.
This is the intention of the organizers of this cycle of three concerts that we sincerely hope will be well received by our audience.
Louis Mazetier (piano jazz)
Among stride pianists, Louis Mazetier ranks high. With a totally personal style, he is considered one of the most talented stride pianists of all time. Although his style may sound vintage, there is nothing old or tired about his playing. Both his compositions (most dedicated to the jazz masters of stride and swing) and his virtuosic improvisations are full of the playful creativity found in the best jazz.
Mazetier started playing jazz at the age of 14 and by 18 he was already performing in jazz clubs in Paris. In addition to his career as a musician, he works full time as a radiologist. He plays with the Paris Washboard Band and has recorded albums with Dick Hyman, François Rilhac, Alain Marquet and Neville Dickie, among others.
Louis has released multiple albums as a leader or co-leader. Although influenced by earlier jazz pianists such as Eubie Blake, James P. Johnson, Fats Waller, Don Ewell, Johnny Guarnieri, Dick Wellstood, and Art Tatum, his biggest influence seems to be Donald Lambert.
