02nd April, 2022
Place: CENTRE MORAL DE GRÀCIA (Ros de Olano, 9 – Barcelona)
Barcelona Springtime Swing ’22 is the second edition of an initiative that was presented for the first time in 2019 and has been halted for two years due to the pandemic. The objective set by the entities that support this project is to give our audience the opportunity to know and enjoy the music of international figures of the current jazz scene – within the wide range of what is understood as classical jazz – who do not normally visit our stages.
We believe that long-time jazz fans and those who feel an incipient curiosity about this genre, will appreciate this initiative that will put them in contact with high class performers, whose music, without lowering their level of demand, is within the reach of all audiences.
This is the intention of the organizers of this cycle of three concerts that we sincerely hope will be well received by our audience.
COSTEL NITESCU & BIEL BALLESTER TRIO (Gipsy swing)

Biel Ballester (guitarra solista)
Fran Asensio (guitarra rítmica)
Oriol González (contrabaix)
Romanian violinist Costel Nitescu is a classically trained virtuoso and is considered one of the best active Jazz violinists. A declared disciple of the legendary Stéphane Grappelli, from whom he has inherited romanticism, a sense of swing and an ability to improvise, he has worked with Tchavolo Schmitt, Mandino Reinhardt, Didier Lockwood, Marcel Loeffler, Biel Ballester and Stochelo Rosenberg. In 2008, he released the album Forever Swing, Grappelli Forever, a declaration of love for his teacher where he shows not only his skills as a violinist, but also his talent as a composer.
The Mallorcan guitarist Biel Ballester is considered one of the most important instrumentalists on the current scene, uniting “manouche” traditions with Mediterranean music, thus achieving a new look at the endearing Francophone style. Although he has toured a lot in Europe and his records are released in the United States and the United Kingdom, his popularity came as a result of his participation in the original soundtrack of ‘Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona’, the film that Woody Allen shot in Barcelona . Ballester is also one of the most prolific composers of Jazz in our country, with a special ability to build simple and charming melodies.
