“Stay True: A memoir narrates a heartwarming memoir about growing up and navigating American culture in search of meaning and belonging.” —The New Yorker
Hua Hsu, Pulitzer Prize 2023 in Memoir or Autobiography
Hua Hsu will present his book Stay True through an open dialogue between the author and Esteve Plantada, poet and cultural journalist, at Fundació IEN. The book has been translated into Spanish and Catalan through Navona publishing house and this event will offer a personal approach to the author, winner of a Pulitzer Prize 2023, and to his work.
Hua Hsu is an American writer and critic whose literary work reflects on issues concerning Asian American integration and identity, analyzing the culture of immigration in the United States as well as the perception of multiculturalism and diversity in American society. Stay True narrates Hua Hsu’s personal experience in college through his friendship with Ken, a friend of the author, who was killed in a carjacking accident three years after they met. The two of them have different perspectives on how to seek a sense of belonging during their adolescent years in the Californian 90’s, without forgetting their Asian American culture. This contrast enriches the personal narrative Hua Hsu creates that goes back to his own coming-of-age story in the United States.
