American Exceptionalism in the Post-Trump era
On February 16, Hilde Restad from Bjørknes University in Norway discussed the history of American exceptionalism as an important concept underpinning US foreign policy from the early days of the United States through to the present. In particular, Dr. Restad addressed the ways in which American exceptionalism has featured in the policies and rhetoric of the Trump administration, and also speculated how American exceptionalism would feature as an important aspect of the Biden administration’s foreign policy. Of special note, despite arguments that America is not as exceptional as many claim it to be, proponents of American exceptionalism remain dominant.
